Subtitled ‘An Entertainment on Marriage’ when first performed in 1969, Mixed Doubles is a series of short plays each with two characters, portraying relationships at different stages of life and love. Beginning with young newly-marrieds in A Man’s Best Friend, then arguments during a tennis match in Score, it finishes with an elderly couple contemplating their likely fate in Resting Place. With authors including Fay Weldon and Alan Ayckbourn, the plays range from humorous and whimsical to poignant and satirical.
